demise of the seeds

if the triple whammy -
1) Bartoli overcomes Serena on fifth match point,
2) Cibulkova eliminates top seed Wozniacki, and
3) Venus vanquished by Pironkova again
- on manic/monster Monday at the All England Club wasn't enough, just moments ago, Sabine Lisicki prevailed against the 9th-seeded Serena-slayer Marion Bartoli to reach the semifinals. you definitely gotta give it to Bartoli though, cos she did after all eliminate the Serena from the tournament, and that itself, is one hell of a feat.

DANG, just when i thought we have found our new Wimbledon ladies champ!! guess not. well, all eyes will be on Maria Sharapova now, and actually, i would love to see her emerge victorious again. somehow, haha!

i guess this can be seen as an affirmation of the players in the Tour, perhaps? clearly, the William sisters are not at the top of their game or the Tour (at the moment, at least), and they're not nearly as invincible after all. so if anyone makes the all-too-familiar remarks about the Tour veterans still dominating the scene, he probably hasn't been watching the right sports channel, haha! xD

oh, Wimbley!

The Championships, Wimbledon
(easily my fave Grand Slam tournament!) is currently underway at the All England Club. and as with any Championship, there's always that element of surprise to see which seeded players will make an early curtain call.

the casualty list at the moment,

1st Round exits: (10) Samantha Stosur, (15) Jelena Jankovic, (22) Shahar Peer, (29) Nikolay Davydenko

2nd Round exits: (3) Li Na, (14) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, (14) Stanislas Wawrinka, (21) Fernando Verdasco

3rd Round exits: (2) Vera Zvonareva, (6) Francesca Schiavone, (11) Andrea Petkovic, (12) Svetlana Kuznetsova, (16) Julia Goerges, (18) Ana Ivanovic, (5) Robin Soderling, (8) Andy Roddick, (9) Gael Monfils, (15) Gilles Simon

couple that with Venus' near-demise to Kimiko Date-Krumm (who played so so well for a lady at 40!) and her towel-lookalike toga, Bethanie Mattek-Sands fashion crime (honestly!), and the gorgeous Julia Goerges' flare up at the umpire, it's been an exciting Wimbledon, i must admit.

but of course, ROGER FEDERER all the way, baybeh! =D
and for the ladies side, i'd like to see someone other than the Williams sisters, please?

twenty

(well, it's about time i revive this blog i guess. and it's quite a fitting time to churn out an entry since i'm moving on from my teenagehood.)

alas, the big 2-0! you could say that i feel 'officially' grown up now. but, that's not to mean that i've been such a teenager all this while. on the contrary, as many have told me (and as i so believe), i am relatively mature beyond my age, so moving on from being a teenager is nothing too momentous for me.

what's daunting about it is that at 20, as you transit into adulthood, it's pretty much high time for you to start making major decisions about your life. for instance, one of the potentially life-defining decisions one will have to make is on the choice of study in university. and this, i'm sure many are familiar with.

more often than not, there's always that conflict between one's genuine interest (or want, basically), and its pragmatism when weighed against the circumstances. so, the eternal dilemma - how do you make your decision? and how do you live with the what if's?

as Christina Aguilera belts, "Life is a journey / It can take your anywhere you choose to go".

indeed, you are the master of your life and the choices you make shape it.

i have no answers to that (if only!). but i guess one thing i'll do is to stick by the decisions i make, and (try) not to dwell (too much) on the could've been's. basically, we should all strive to live with no regrets. and always take heart in knowing that you've made the right choice. (:

but if ever, should one have a change of heart, always bear in mind the words of George Eliot: "It is never too late to be who you might have been."

oh yes, before i forget - thank you for the lovely wishes and gifts, my friends! (: truly appreciated.
