sets

well, i had two encounters with the term set today - once during math lecture (yes, that math topic), and the other, in the form of the killer sets during canoeing training. and i am dead beat right now.

anyway, news about the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards that was held in the morning:

keliru lagi
(confused again)

Anugerah Juara Lagu ke-22 was a shocker. yet again, a repeat of the Keliru and Relaku Pujuk wins. just confounding, really. o.O

Djokovic triumphed over Tsonga to claim the Men's Singles title in the Australian Open. and well, both my bro and i are elated over his win. though dad, mum and sis were rooting for the young Muhammad Ali lookalike, somehow. hmm. -.-" anyway, i felt that Tsonga just gave a tad too much in the first set, after which Djokovic's brilliant play took over.

news/articles from the official website: Relieved Novak living the dream, Tsonga proud despite defeat, Djokovic v Tsonga set by set summary.

them and their trophies

the proud djoker

did somebody say glamorous? absolutely! =D

and of course, if you haven't heard already - Indonesia's former president Suharto dies at age 86.

anyway, to end this post, here's a breath-taking photo of the Rod Laver Arena:

truly captivating...

stunners

okay, i certainly have to take back my words following the really shocking outcome of the Federer-Djokovic semi-finals. in which, if you haven't heard, Djokovic defeated the world no. 1 in straight sets. well, i guess there just wasn't luck for the two world no. 1s in this Open. (Henin was knocked out in the quarters)

news from the official website: Federer praises Djokovic, Djokovic reaps the rewards.

and of course, Maria Sharapova emerged victorious over Ivanovic in the finals, claiming the Australian Open Women's Singles crown. read more here: Sharapova v Ivanovic set by set, Mighty Maria takes the title, Sharapova savours sweet success.

posing with their trophies

yet again

and because this photo is totally hot

anyway, the first tutoring session at Ghim Moh on Friday went along well. credit goes to fellow tutors and the kids who seem very nice. so that's good.

also, the first canoeing training this morning went along fine. i was terribly nervous when i first sat in the canoe, since it's not exactly easy to balance. and i stoned for quite a few minutes before paddling off. and by God's grace, i didn't capsize. (: anyhow, fellow team mates are alright, and that's good too.

monopoly
singapore edition

orchard road, nassim road, farrer road, we conquered them all today. haha. well, after collecting our HMT O-level results in the afternoon, i towned with pals, Dean and Yao Guang. after which we just simply went on a leisure hike from orchard all the way to botanic gardens and out to bukit timah road. =D yes, retarded and impulsive, we were.

at the botanic gardens...

anyway, results are quite okay, i guess. some were happy, and others were left disappointed. but i am really glad to know that our batch of Melayus did really well. (:

and, Australian Open updates: Memory drives Maria on, Ana digs deep to down Daniela, Tsonga stunner stops Nadal

so it's gonna be a Sharapova-Ivanovic finals (YAY), and most probably, Tsonga-Federer finals. pardon me to be so nasty to Djokovic, but i doubt he'll be able to triumph over the world no. 1. afterall, he didn't manage to win a single match (or set for that matter) in the group stage of last year's Masters Cup. -.-"

and just some updates about Heath Ledger's untimely death:

shockers
Jankovic sends Serena packing
Sharapova sizzles against helpless Henin =/
Emotions flow for Tsonga
Ivanovic storms into semi
and so, the draw for the Australian Open Singles semi-finals are as follows:
Men's Singles -
Federer
-Djokovic
Tsonga-Nadal

Women's Singles
-
Sharapova-Jankovic
Ivanovic-Hantuchova
and more importantly, news which i heard of during the break right after Chem Lecture from dearest classmate Angie - Heath Ledger Found Dead In New York. it's really tragic, i must say, seeing how talented, dedicated, and passionate he was as an actor. ): well, some things in life just happen, i guess.

where the world comes to play

so, the Australian Open is into its sixth day of competition. and just minutes ago, Federer survived a very close match against the unseeded Tipsarevic, 6-7, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1, 10-8, to scrape through to the fourth round. however, some other seeded players were not so fortunate, having to make surprising early exits, most notably, Roddick, Gonzalez, Mauresmo, Chakvetadze (defeated by the other Maria, seeded no. 28) and Kuznetsova. and of course, there's my favourite, Davenport, who was mercilessly outclassed by Sharapova on Wednesday afternoon. okay, she's not seeded, but just for your information. =D so, i'm now rooting for Henin and Ivanovic for the Women's Singles all the way. yeah.

haha, that aside, life has been relatively eventful the past week.

apart from the first sessions of Raffles Chapter and Raffles Medical Society, which were quite fun and enlightening, especially for RMS, there was also BBQ (i.e. Buckle-Buckley House Party) yesterday, which was très exciting. afterall, it's not everyday that you get to set fires in school. haha. then, there's also the plain retarded but fun random moments here and there.

anyway, the tutoring preparatory session today was really relevant and on the whole, the two prep sessions have been very beneficial, especially the mock teaching session. right now, i really am looking forward to the first tutoring session this friday. let's hope for the best yeah.

oh, and finally, having spent one week with my classmates, i can safely say that 09S06C, or 09SOSEXY xP as ammer puts it, is just simply a great class to be in. (:

and i can't crash Buckley House Meeting on tuesday, sadly. if only my free block is one block later! ):

ohwell, have a great weekend.

cmi

okay, i feel very shi bai. especially after dance tryouts today, where i didn't manage to memorise the super short routine well and ended up giving a crappy one. well, three crappy ones actually. talk about doing a full dance.

and there's also the harsh possibility (which is the highly likely reality) that out of the three tryouts/trials - canoeing, dance and archery (which wasn't so bad though, but not exactly good) - that i've gone for, i doubt i'll get a call at all. -.-" yes, i know, that is so loser. =/

but ohwell, like my wise friend Yao Guang said, it's the experience we gain that's more important, which will form the fond memories of our time in jc. which i completely agree with. and he also added that he felt as though he's been through a lot really, despite it being only week 3 of college life. and in fact, i feel the same way too. (:

damn, why am i so positive. three paragraphs into the entry and the initial subject matter has already been dissolved. xP haha

anyway, on to some Australian Open news: thus far, i think all hot favourites are through, with some, like Sharapova, Henin, Serena Williams, Roddick and Davydenko, cruising through, and others, like Davenport, Jankovic and Nadal somewhay struggling to make it to the 2nd round. and there's been one significant 1st round exit by ninth-seed Andy Murray.

well, that's all. looking forward to a great day tmr, which will begin with a captain's ball game with dearest classmates. =D

oh, and i've finally watched Mukhsin, the Yasmin Ahmad film. essentially, a heartwarming story about first love, as its tagline suggests. (:

mukhsin

OH, and of course, how could i forget this important piece of information - O-level results will be out on Friday! =/ let's just hope for the best. wrong info, sorry!

silence

today was one of the most intense days of my life.

well, anyway, the Australian Open begins tmr! =D joy to tennis enthusiasts. but, i'm not very hopeful about Lindsay Davenport's stay in the Women's Singles since both Henin and Sharapova are in the same section. and moreover, she faces a potential 2nd round meeting with Sharapova. how lucky, right. so if she ever wants to progress to the semi-finals, she has them to defeat first. well, best of luck to Davenport. (:

oh, and read this: Serena Williams inspired by Lindsay Davenport's rapid return after giving birth =D

apart from that, i've got dance and archery tryouts tmr. haha. how exciting, i know. i am so looking forward to them. xP

btw, the E-WUTW by RJC 27th CommzD is so darn lengthy. but mostly irrelevant to me anyway. haha. but a good intiative, i must say. (:

college life

arjay's been pretty awesome thus far.

T'sparanza 2008, and of course, O'Nite were just simply wonderful. afterall, i've got great T'antantanians for OG mates, who certainly deserve mention in this entry. (: led by towkay Sharon and taitai Yan Liang, my lovely OG mates with whom i have spent my first 4 days of college are Fadhilah, Li Tying, Yi Kai, Michelle, Lynn, Peixian, Clarissa, Bernice, Yona, Vanessa, Fawaz, Bao Rong, Wang Ye, Subra, Ronald, Zhan Yi, Leoson, Yu Yue, and Pengcheng. apart from them, there's also the 3 Tans who have made Orientation just so great for all T'antantanians - our OGLs! (: thanks so much Valerie, Felicia and Mao Lin.

added at 2.17pm on sunday, 13 january 2008:
and this paragraph serves as a dedication to my fabulous friend and fellow T'antantanian (highfive!) Fadhilah Abdul Rahman Z, upon her shameless request. a seemingly (haha) kind, friendly, cheerful, and loaded with really lame jokes and remarks that usually aren't in the least funny, she is basically a good friend lah. well, afterall, i do consider her my friend. so she must be a good person, right? right. OH. and that being said, she's also quite the klutz at times. like when she cleanly forgot to bring my pen one day, just when she had smsed me the day before to inform me that she has my pen with her and that she'd bring it the next day. just so you know, the pen is still with her. HAHA. also, being the trendy person that she is, she carries around a radio for a personal belongings bag. now, how cool is that? not really, i agree. =D apart from that, she's an aspiring college hockey player (WHOAAA...), so all the best to her for that. (:

okay, this should be enough lah huh, my fabulous friend. so, where's mine? xP

now that Orientation's over, it's back to serious business, with lectures and tutorials. from the introductory lectures that we had the past week, i'm glad to say that the only department that i can't stand right now (sentiments which many other share as well), is the Maths one. seriously, that guy lecturer just wants people to hate him. -.-"

and of course, what's school life without CCAs, right? went for CCA Feste, signed up for a few, and let's see how it goes from there. by the way, had canoeing trials yesterday, and let's just say i'm not exactly cut out for it in my current state of fitness. however, i live in hope. =D haha. oh, and i'm actually considering running for Council, somehow.

moving on to my class, 09s06C - it's a very interesting class lah, to say the least. apart from the 4:17 girls to guys ratio (yes, it's that class), there's really unique characters. well, here's to a great two years with them. (:

anyway, on to today's happenings - MCS Orientation and CIP Tutoring Course Session 1. both of which were enlightening and fun. (:

haha, okay, this is such a terribly organised entry.

well, have a great weekend everybody! (:

t'antantan

basically, orientation has been great thus far. but tiring.

well, i am certainly glad to have such a co-operative OG, and so, that's good. (: so yay to BB09 - T'antantan, both OG mates and OGLs! =D

and of course, newsflash - A Common Board of Governors for RI and RJC from June 2008, and Raffles Junior College is introducing its own diploma.

oh, anyway, the Gilmore Girls series finale really brought the show full circle. (: and that's one less drama series to watch from now on. haha

year two thousand and eight

we met up at 9pm.
we discussed for quite a long while, deciding on how best to pass the time till countdown.
we played card games on a grassy patch right outside Vivocity.
5 minutes to midnight, we stopped all play, and were all really psyched up for the countdown.
we saw fireworks, then realised that we had in fact, missed the countdown. -.-" (yes, a countdown without the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!, sadly)
we watched the brilliant display of fireworks.
we made our way to West Bowl, and bowled three games.
we navigated our way to West Coast Park.
we had breakfast at Macs.
we played more card games, and of course, Taboo, courtesy of Justin Chua, and made a considerable amount of noise while doing so.
we parted ways when dawn broke.

and that was basically how i spent the last moments of 2007, and the first of 2008, with this great bunch of guys:

back row: Bryan, Jun Chang, Louis, Daryl, Yongjian, Jason
front row: yours truly, Justin Chua, Lionel, Shawn, Leonard

a (more) casual shot

right after we ushered in 2008

us (:

us three (:

us four (:

Bryan and Shawn =D

our two lanes - 13 & 14

oh, and of course, right before all that, i accompanied Shawn to Queensway Shopping Centre where he got his pair of $144 Asics Landreth. which is quite a bargain for a really good pair of shoes. or so i think.

alright, so tmr marks the start of a new school environment, and a new academic year. and of course, i just can't help but to be in somewhat um, disbelief, of the reality that my RI days are gone. but of course, as i did four years ago, when i was just an innocent 12-year-old in a foreign environment, despite the apprehension and unsettling feeling in me right now, i certainly look forward to this new chapter of my life with much hope and positivity. (:

whoa, it's already 2008. and for what it's worth, happy new year once again! (:
