... or so is claimed of the BMT experience, clearly plastered on a banner along the entrance to the famed Pulau Tekong. as much as i would love to just say that it's all a pile of b.s., i have to admit that BMT has been one hell of an experience. granted, i don't and will never like the regimentation and lack of freedom of the military way of life, but discounting that, it has been a good eight weeks or so in Resort World Tekong, haha! (:
i have to admit that it's been a really enriching experience. what with the regimentation, discipline, outfield experiences (especially the highlight of any recruit's BMT experience - Field Camp!), military know-hows, etc. i've learnt to live with not showering and brushing my teeth for five days, and basically heck-caring everything about hygiene when you can't really wash your hands before you eat and drinking water with a dash of sand in it, haha. and of course, there's much military knowledge i've learnt, which i don't think you'd be interested to know. OH, and not forgetting, my vocabulary of swear words has increased as well, uhhuh. xD
i think a key aspect to surviving BMT is that you just gotta make peace with the shiz. to me, that was all mainly about getting over the whole regimentation and lack of freedom issue. dislike it all you want, but just learn to accept it. and eventually you'll find that life will be so much better.
and most importantly, the people matter a great deal. on that note, i'm very glad and fortunate to have awesome (and i mean it with all my heart) section-, platoon- and company-mates who make life in Tekong so much more bearable and memorable. really, i initially didn't think that i would actually interact with fellow recruits from other sections, but i did get to make quite a number of new friends from there, and well, it's always good to widen your social circle. (:
as much as i've chastised and bitched about the unreasonable and inefficient ways of the commanders, i must admit that i've learnt quite a bit (okay la, actually, i've learnt a lot) from them. behind the annoying unreasonable disciplinarian facade, they're actually pretty nice people la, haha. it's just that circumstances force them to act a certain way which is meant to repulse recruits and that's just the way things are. though of course, you can't help but feel that some of them actually enjoy doing so, heh.
oh, and of late, there's been much bitching about certain platoon-mates, which totally makes for a most exciting and entertaining time. and boy, i seem like such a saint when you compare their bitching to mine, seriously. essentially, i've been dethroned as Queen Bitch, and that kinda sucks. ): oh well! haha
okay la, i'll edit this post as and when i have more stuff to add on. just know that BMT has been at times, literally one hell of an experience (recall Field Camp, and the shit incident). and in four days' time, i shall throw my jockey cap up high and with much relief and happiness, shout POP LO! (:
oh yes, i'll be having my block leave from 9th to 18th April, so for those who've missed me, book a date with me soon uhhuh! xD
